Download, share, or email a PDF of every search category, jurisdiction, and data source — never your records. Organizations verify it at a public link.

Your Screening Scope Certificate is branded proof of what was searched — every search category, residence jurisdiction, and named data source. It is not a consumer report. It never includes records, charges, dispositions, or case numbers. Use it when an organization asks for more than a badge status.

Find it in your volunteer portal under Documents & Sharing after a self-funded screening finishes (you paid the $5 check yourself). The shareable certificate (public verification link and email) is self-funded only. Organization users can still open Screening Scope on a volunteer profile or instant-check report to browse the same named-source register as volunteerbadge.com/sources (the full catalog). Appendix A of the scope PDF lists every repository in two parts: sources in SSN-trace (or declared residence) jurisdictions, then all other states and federal/nationwide sources. Download from the drawer — that file is not a consumer report and has no public share link.

What you can do with it

Download the PDF — filename VolunteerBadge-Screening-Certificate-[YourName].pdf. The name never reveals the outcome.
Share a link — copy a public verification page at volunteerbadge.com/c/… Recipients see your first name and last initial, the certificate number, screening date, badge status (if you cleared), and search counts. They can download the same PDF. The page is not indexed by search engines.
Email itfrom the Share drawer — VolunteerBadge sends the certificate (PDF attached when it is under 1 MB) and the verification link. You can add an organization name and a short note. Up to 10 emails every 24 hours. Turning sharing off disables the public link and email; download still works.

Your background-check report stays private

The report on the same Documents card is your full consumer-report PDF (download only). VolunteerBadge will not email it to an organization — or anyone else — on your behalf. Never forward your report unless you chose to. Organizations can keep a privacy-safe brief summary of the check they ordered (name and pass/fail only) without asking you to send your file. While a check is under human review, the PDF may withhold record detail until review completes. If something on it looks wrong, see Get a copy of — or dispute — your report.

Two certificate variants

Cleared — your badge is active. The certificate shows badge status and valid-through date plus the full search scope.
Completed — screening finished after records review. The certificate confirms scope only. It does not claim a badge or a pass. Your full report is in the portal.

When you get an email automatically

If you paid for the check yourself, we email you when screening finishes: Your VolunteerBadge screening is complete — certificate attached. The certificate is attached when we can generate it; otherwise the email points you to the portal. Organization-funded volunteers do not get this email — their organization's admins are notified instead.
