The Volunteer Quiz is a free, science-backed way to understand your volunteers — what motivates them and where they'll do their best work. Volunteers take a fun 2-minute quiz; you get a clear Volunteer Profile for anyone who chooses to share theirs, so you can place, recognize, and keep each person in the way that fits them best. Find it under Manage → Insights.

A placement tool — never a screening tool

Insights are only for finding where someone fits and helping you engage them. They must never be used to accept, reject, or make any decision about a volunteer, and they are completely separate from background checks. Sharing a result with you is always the volunteer's choice.

What's in a Volunteer Profile

After a light “what kind of volunteer are you?” archetype, volunteers can opt into a short, science-backed deep read that reveals:

What drives them — based on the Volunteer Functions Inventory (Clary & Snyder, 1998), a peer-reviewed model of volunteer motivation: Values, Understanding, Enhancement, Career, Social, and Growth & Balance.
Their standout strengths — a brief character-strengths snapshot.
Roles they'll thrive in, and how to keep them engaged — matched to their motivations (well-matched volunteers stay longer).

Invite your volunteers

Go to Manage → Insights.
Copy your invite link (it's tagged to your organization) and share it however you like — your newsletter, a group chat, or a message to your volunteers.
Prefer to email everyone at once? Use “Or email the invite to all my volunteers” and confirm on the prompt — we'll send the invite to every active volunteer on your roster. (The confirmation step means it can never send by accident.)
As volunteers take the quiz from your link and choose to share, their results appear on this page.

What volunteers see

The quiz lives at volunteerbadge.com/volunteer-quizand needs no sign-up. When someone opens your invite link and finishes their profile, they're asked — optionally — whether to share it with your organization. They can always keep their results private.

See your team at a glance

As results come in, the top of the Insights page shows team-wide charts — what drives your volunteers (their motivations) and their standout strengths across everyone who shared — plus quick stats like your most common driver and strength. Below the charts, each volunteer's individual result is shown as its own card, so you can plan placements both at a glance and person by person.

A quarterly nudge

About once a quarter we send a friendly reminder to leaders and volunteers about the quiz, so new volunteers discover it and your program keeps benefiting. Everyone can unsubscribe from these anytime.
