Your Form 990 due date

Which annual return the IRS record points to, when it is due, and the extension.

Startup tools read the filing-requirement code, the fiscal-year-end month, and the latest receipts and assets in the public IRS record. They suggest Form 990-N, 990-EZ, 990, or 990-PF from those figures. When the code and the dollars disagree, both readings are shown.

The due date is the 15th day of the fifth month after the fiscal year ends. If that day is a weekend or a federal holiday, it moves to the next business day. A December year-end is due May 15. A June year-end is due November 15. Form 8868 is an automatic six-month extension from that unadjusted 15th.

Form 990-N has no late-filing penalty. Missing a required return for three consecutive years is how the IRS revokes exempt status automatically. That is a description of the rule, not a prediction about your organization. E-filing is mandatory when a return is required.

VolunteerBadge does not file the return. The IRS accepts Form 990-N at no charge. See what a filing-record note means.
